Note: While the links on this page are all current as of February 2008, most of the content is from 2000 or earlier.

Aco, a Japanese R&B singer, had released several albums but wasn't well known in Japan until the chart-topping May 1999 single "Grateful Days," a song by Dragon Ash (a Japanese hip-hop outfit) featuring Aco and Japanese rapper Zeebra.

Her December 1999 album Absolute Ego was very successful, and showed the influence of the Bristol sound. The remix album The Other Side of Absolute Ego, released the following year, featured remixes of Aco songs by such artists as Yoshinori Sunahara (who produced several of the tracks on Absolute Ego), DJ Krush, and Tricky. Produced largely by Adrian Sherwood, the album Material was released in 2001. Irony, released in 2003, was produced by Taeji Sawai, Aco, and the Icelandic project Múm.

With Japanese rapper Twigy [sic], Aco appears on DJ Krush's single Tragicomic, a June 2000 release on Sony Japan that appears on the spring 2001 U.S. domestic release Japan For Sale.

Aco Links

Aco (Sony Japan English-language site) - This English-language site, launched by Sony Japan in fall 2000 (and apparently not updated since mid-2004, unlike the Japanese-language site), includes an English-language discography with audio and video samples. However, there are fewer samples on the English discography than on the discography from the Japanese-language site, so Aco fans would do well to use the two in conjunction with each other.

Aco (Sony Japan Japanese-language site) - This Japanese-language site includes a discography (more comprehensive than the one on the English-language site) with audio and video samples. (See also the old (circa 2001) discography.) Navigation in English, text mostly in Japanese.
If you want software to support Japanese text for your browser (either to read Japanese pages, or just to preserve their visual integrity), check out the free download site for NJStar Communicator at NJStar.
