Event Description

Originally scheduled to headline at Buzz on Sept. 14, 2001 were Hybrid and Utah Saints. Transportation and communications difficulties in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks prevented them from appearing; the event was reconfigured as a benefit for the Red Cross, with Deep Dish and Scott Henry headlining.

Six DJs from the University of Maryland Electronic Dance Music Club performed on the Buzz patio.

The Buzz event (now Cübik) takes place every Friday at Nation, a 25,000-square-foot building with two large rooms of sound and a tri-level back patio.

DJ Profiles

The EDMC patio takeover lineup was as follows (descriptions by Phil Weinstein a.k.a. Lusiphur):

11 pm to 12 midnight - Ninjah - Hard acid trance
Ninjah has been with the EDMC since it began and is new to the DJ circuit but has the talent to stand up on the decks and make the crowd move.

12 midnight to 1:15 am - HiOctane - Techno
When we first started having meetings and throwing events on campus, we used the equipment of this man. He's been throwing parties for years, the central figure behind KickDrum Productions. He's performed at two of the three campus events we have held.

1:15 am to 2:30 am - DeeJay Clutch - House
Both a founding EDMC member, and a DJ at WMUC. DJ Clutch has been gathering notoriety spinning at DC and Baltimore events. He was also on the decks the night we took over the Student Union's all nighter last year.

2:30 am to 3:30 am - iLLusion - UK Hard House
A founding member of DC skillz, iLLusion is one of the most outspoken non-students on the listserve and rocked the party for us at Art Attack several months ago. He's one of the most underrated young DJs in the DC scene and will make the Buzz crowd do a double take.

3:30 am to 4 am - Stasis w/MC Pythy - DrumNBass
Stasis was involved with Family Productions in the mid-nineties and had left the scene to involve himself in other projects, one of which is his education. But he is a top notch producer and DJ and will be performing a live PA with his long time partner MC Pythy for us at Buzz. Stasis was also the president of the Frostburg State University's EDMC. It was their EDMC that started the phenomenon and I'm proud to have him performing with us.

4 am to 5 am - Christine Moritz [Xine] - Happy Charm Fool Dance Music
I must say I almost didn't know this gem of a DJ existed until she graced the decks here at 2614 house. She learned to spin HCFDM in japan years ago and has been DJing with WMUC for a long time. She's going to lay down the sounds of the japanese underground for us at buzz. It's unique and I hope you don't miss her set.
